In this striking design, Hasui demonstrates how bright midnight can actually shine. The full moon hangs in between bare trees as the landscape is ablaze in the moonlight. The puddles in the foreground and the mist in the background contain and reflect this stunning light while the clear sky shines bright with a depth of blue only this time of night can produce.

Connoisseur's Note

This print is the first state of the design, baring the Doi Sadaichi (Teiichi) seal along with the Fujikawa and Goto carver and printer seal. The careful and subtle printing throughout the design pays testimony to its early production. This print's condition is exceedingly fine, as it was never framed nor exposed to light for prolonged periods. The colors are in a pristine state of preservation and appear as fresh and vibrant as the day the work was executed.
