Details

Rendered in a style that appears as an amalgamation of Hiroshige and pre-earthquake Hasui, the composition features a traditional aerial perspective of a snow-covered village. The scene shows its inhabitants braving the snowfall with umbrellas and some with outwear made of straw. The ornate snowfall is depicted in large flakes in many Hasui designs that dominate the scene and contribute a rhythmic pulse to the composition. The title cartouche at the top right reinforces the traditional feel of the design and recalls the work of Hiroshige.
