Details
A stunning pine with outstretched limbs is clad in red. A golden light radiates the composition and highlights the pine’s intricate needles. The background is executed in a hazy gold tone which provides the work with a subtle luster and depth. Namiki advances the dreamlike atmosphere by printing the tree with a dramatic bokashi, coloring its trunk and branches with a pulsing color that animates the tree.
The composition and materials bring to mind Edo period byobu and the work of Rimpa masters such as Sotaysu or Korin.

The background is printed in gold leaf, which creates depth and provides a mysterious source of light that is held deep within the design. This work is one of the artist’s most successful designs and, as a result, is among his most sought-after works.
