Details

In this charming work, the artist shows a parade of kimono-clad women and children crossing the famed half-moon-shaped bridge at Kameido. Overhead hangs a canopy of blooming wisteria, whose purple blooms meet the crossing pedestrians. The scene is idyllic and quiet but the artist’s use of color, light, and his brilliant ability to capture reflection’s water surfaces further animates the design in a dramatic fashion. This work is executed in Yoshida’s own blend of watercolor and oil painting translated into the language of woodblock prints.

Connoisseur's Note

This impression is in an outstanding state of preservation with exceedingly sharp and vivid colors in pristine condition. This print features Yoshida’s large red jizuri seal, as well as a brush and pencil signature, indicating it was produced under his strict supervision. As typical with red Jizuri sealed prints, this impression is executed with darker and richer pigments making it more desirable than its lighter printed counterparts.
