Details

In Koitsu’s tanzaku-sized print, "Sarusawa Pond, Nara," captures a tranquil winter scene in a tanzaku-sized print, reminiscent of the narrow verticality of a scroll. Light snow gently falls as a woman adorned in a striking traditional kimono, wooden getas, and holding an umbrella gracefully strolls through the park. Her path leads her alongside an icy pond, with a tall willow tree flanking her. The landscape is blanketed in freshly fallen snow, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere. In the distance, the silhouette of a pagoda emerges against the wintry backdrop, adding a sense of historical depth to the scene.

Connoisseur's Note

This print was produced by the Doi publishing house. This impression bears the Ikeda-Goto carver and printer seals, indicating it is an early pre-war impression of the design. The print is in a pristine state of conservation, with sharp and vivid colors and exceptional printing.
