The editor of this massive three-volume set sought to put together the best collection of 20th century prints ever assembled and produce the highest quality publication, sparing no expense in its fabrication. Even with a cursory examination of these stunning books, one can easily see the goal achieved and perhaps even exceeded. This three-volume set of hardbound books are each contained within their own hardbound clamshell covers and then housed in a clamshell cardboard box.

Each volume illustrates hundreds of the most important and beautiful 20th century Japanese prints by artists from both Shin Hanga and Sosaku Hanga traditions as well as Contemporary designs. This set is executed in an oversized format which makes most of the full-page illustrations the actual size of the original prints, and as such, provides the unique opportunity of a side-by-side comparison to prints taken from the world’s top museums. Each book contains nearly 300 full-page illustrations, with some of the images tipped onto the book’s pages. Each plate is listed in Japanese and English.
