Simply put, this is the best reference on Tsunetomi paintings ever produced. The catalogue lists more than a hundred original paintings and drawings, some works are large-scale scrolls and screens that were only photographed for this reference. Within the print community, Tsunetomi is known to have produced a handful of stunning hanga. However, it is painting where this artist excelled, and this catalogue easily demonstrates his mastery of the brush. Some of Tsunetomi’s work is among the best in 20th century Japanese painting and this catalogue highlights the artist’s best originals. This catalogue is rarely seen in Japan and is even scarcer in the states.
