Kawanishi Hide loved his native city of Kobe so much that he dedicated his entire career producing prints and paintings celebrating this cosmopolitan metropolis. It is a fitting tribute that the Kobe City Museum has produced such a valuable reference for the study of Kawanishi's artwork. This book illustrates Kawanishi's entire series, One Hundred Scenes of Kobe executed in 1933–1936 and his second attempt, One Hundred Scenes of Kobe executed in 1952–1961. The artist's rare early work is also highlighted, as are prints done by his son, Yuzaburo. This reference is chock full of valuable information and is a must for anyone interested in this artist’s work.
