This scarcely seen book is the catalog raisonne to the work of Sosaku Hanga artist Shigeru Hatsuyama. Hatsuyama was a celebrated children’s book illustrator who also produced captivating woodblock print designs. This book showcases the artist’s body of work done in this medium reproduced on a large scale—many of the prints are presented in life-size or even slightly larger. The images of the prints are in full color and the printing quality is simply astonishing—the images easily fool the eye and appear to be original woodblock prints. No expense was spared in producing this stunning publication, as this high-quality luxury coffee table book originally sold for JPY 120,000 ($1,200 in 1976).
