This exhibition catalog illustrates the Ukiyo-e prints from the Mary Ainsworth Collection housed at the Allen Memorial Art Museum in Oberlin College. The Ainsworth collection is one of the world’s most important collections of Ukiyo-e ever assembled. The collection has outstanding examples of virtually every important artist within this genre. What sets the Ainsworth Collection apart is the rare and, in a few cases, unique impressions from the early so-called “primitive” era of Japanese printmaking. This spellbinding book illustrates 200 masterworks in full color. Each image is identified in both English and Japanese.

This exhibition catalog commemorates the travel of this important collection to the Chiba City Museum of Art and The Shizuoka City Museum of Art in Japan.
