Details

This oversized hardcover reference is bound handsomely in rust-colored heavy linen cloth boards, with sharp and distinct gilt lettering on the spine and to the edge of the pages. The book was compiled by the Curator of the Clarence Buckingham Collection of Japanese Prints, Margaret O. Gentles, in 1965. It is one of the earliest references produced and draws upon the AIC’s rich collection of Ukiyo-e. The book bolsters eight color plates and 527 total illustrations, the remainder being black-and-white. Artists included are Suzuki Harunobu, Suzuki Harushige, Kuninobu, Tosen, Masunobu, Mitsunobu, Komai Yoshinobu, Komatsuken, Minko, Ran-U, Shichu, Isoda Koryusai, Kitao Shigemasa, Ishikawa Toyomasa, Okabe Nangaku, Uchimasa, Utagawa Toyoharu and Utagawa Toyonobu.
