Carrying on the artistic torch from Joichi Hoshi, Hajime Namiki's body of work is primarily focused on trees and stars. Like Hoshi, Namike utilizes silver and gold metallic pigments and silver mica to create stunning landscapes that mix Rimpa school and contemporary artistic styles.
In this design, Namike grants the viewer an intricately carved and towering tree-clad in the color of aging autumn, set against a brilliant gold background; this design leaves no doubt the sun's rays can turn anything it touches into gold.
Connoisseur's Note
Namiki's work is both striking and accessible. His designs are charged with the poetics of haiku in their simplicity and elegance. This design is a rarely seen work from the mid-90s that has long since sold out. Namiki has moved away from the realism found in this design to a more stylized manner, making these earlier works quite sought after.
